A yummy crunchy treat that’s so easy anyone and everyone can make it! These 3-ingredient chocolate crunch doughnuts are perfect for when you’re craving something sweet, but don’t feel like baking or making anything too complicated.
This recipe is probably the most popular recipe on my blog to date. I think the reason is that they’re so easy and only call for 3 ingredients. They’re also really easy to adjust – you can add anything to them and you can shape them however you like. I love using doughnuts mould, but you can use any moulds you have on hand, or even use a cake tin and cut them up into bars/squares.
These chocolate crunch doughnuts do remind me of a crunch chocolate bar, but a dark version, which in my opinion is so much better! I used 70% dairy-free dark chocolate, but it will work with any chocolate you prefer. I usually make them with quinoa pops, but I’ve also made them with protein crispies, puffed brown rice and rice krispies. I’m obsessed with chocolate treats that are also crunchy. They’re so addictive and satisfying!
I’m not a big fan of doughnuts, mainly because they’re way too oily and sickly sweet. I do however LOVE using doughnut moulds to make anything but doughnuts. Like these chocolate chip doughnut cookies, or rose chocolate doughnuts, which are more like doughnut shaped mini cakes. I thought it would be a fun idea to use a doughnut mould for this recipe too. Mini doughnut moulds work best as I feel regular sized doughnut moulds are too big. If regular size doughnut moulds is all you have available, you can still use them and cut the doughnut in half, although they won’t be as cute.
Reasons why you need to make these 3-ingredient chocolate crunch doughnuts:
- They’re no-bake
- Easy to make
- Only call for 3-ingredients
- Vegan
- Gluten-free
- Dairy-free
- Can be made nut-free
- Adjustable to linking and dietary needs
- And they’re so cute!

3-Ingredient Chocolate Crunch Doughnuts
Equipment
Ingredients
- 200g dark chocolate
- 25g quinoa pops* or puffed brown rice, protein crispies, rice krispies, etc.
- 4 tbsp tahini or nut-butter
Instructions
- Break up the chocolate into a heatproof bowl. You can either melt it in the microwave, stirring every minute or so, or you can place it on top of a small pan of simmering water until it has completely melted.
- Mix in the tahini/nut-butter, then fold in the quinoa pops.
- Divide the mixture between 18 mini doughnut rings. Place in the fridge for 1-2 hours or until the chocolate has set.
What a cute little candy recipe! Perfect for those little chocolate hankerings where you also need a good crunch! Rice krispies used to be one of my favorite cereals too. I want to try making this with puffed quinoa or puffed millet too!
Do you mean we have to store it in the freezer for 5 days until it’s edible?
No you can eat them as soon as they’ve set (after 1-2 hours in the fridge)
Seriously? Have you ever heard of a recipe that calls for the food to be frozen for days before it becomes edible? Have you never eaten Rice Krispies, chocolate or peanut butter without having frozen them for days beforehand? Use a little common sense.
Hey Nicola 🙂 It’s ok that she asked the question. I’m always asking questions that some may consider obvious, that’s how I learn. She might be a beginner and not know much about food preparation. It’s all good 🙂
No in the fridge for 1-2hours
Hi ?, how do you make this shape?
I used a doughnut tin 🙂
Looks yummy 😀 Will try making these – there are 2 coeliacs in my family, so i’m usually hunting for gluten-free recipes so that they can try anything I make 🙂
Can I use coconut oil instead nut butter?
Yes coconut oil should work or any other nut/seed butter 🙂
I used the puffed quinoa and its amazing. I used more peanut butter and less chocolate for higher protein ?
Fantastic Debbie! Glad you enjoyed them 😀
Are they good for like larges goods if people for like a party if you would cut it up.
You can use different moulds or you can set the mixture in a cake pan and slice them into bars. You might need to double the recipe depending on the size of the pan. Hope that answers your question.
Will sunflower butter work in place of almond butter?
Sunflower butter should work just as well 🙂
These look very good. Where did you get your protein crispies from? I have not been able to find them anywhere!
Do you know what the calories are in each? Also where do you get puffed quinoa?
I bought the puffed quinoa in the Bulk Barn but decided not to use it as it is not crunchy.; more like puffed wheat. Better to use rice crispies or even crunchy corn flake cereal.
What other molds can I make these in? I want to make smaller versions for a bake sale. Maybe I can try using an ice cube tray? Any other suggestions?
Any moulds should work including ice trays. Although I would suggest silicon moulds as they’re easier to remove the chocolates from.
Nadia! I love this recipe and shapes! So chocolatey and healthy! Thank you for sharing, Dee xx
Yay yummy nom nom
What are protein crispies?
These look amazing, thank you so much for sharing such a simple, low sugar, vegan, GF sweet treat. It checks off all the boxes. I love it. And they’re so cute too.
xoxo
I’m always amazed by how creative you are with your recipes! These look like the perfect moreish treat. Can’t wait to give them a go 🙂

Sounds great!
I am in Ontario and it’s very difficult to find dairy free chocolate.
What brand did you use?
Thx
I just use dark chocolate 70% cocoa solids or above tend to not have dairy. Just check the ingredients 😉
Hi, you can make your own chocolate with coconut oil, cocoa powder and a bit of vanilla essence and some honey to sweeten. Before I found this recipe I made rice crispy chocolate with my homemade chocolate and peppermint essence. I poured it over rice crispies and let it set and sliced into chunks. No peanut butter just the homemade chocolate and the crisps with a mint flavour. They were pretty good. 🙂 I’m going to try yours Nadia with the nut butter. Looks good.
Just found this recipe, sounds delicious. On problem, major nut allergies in this house, what do you suggest as a substitute? Thanks.
It should still work without the nut butter, or you can substitute it with some coconut oil 🙂
Try using a seed butter. Sunflower seed butter or make you own with any seed you like with a food processor or high speed blender. Just think of something you would like with the chocolate.
I agree with coconut oil base instead of the nut butter. What is a better alternative for the sweetness? Agave? Honey?
Both honey and agave will work just as well 🙂
I don’t have doughnut rings so I used a small cake pan and it turned out great! It was so nice to be able to have a good tasting treat for my 2 grandkids who are celiac. Thanks for sharing.
So glad to hear your grandkids enjoyed them Jan 😀
OMG! sooo gooooood
An easy and healthy treat 🙂
What are protein crispies and where did you purchase them?
I got them from a local health shop and couldn’t find them online, but here’s an alternative https://amzn.to/2PACSH4
Do you need to temper the chocolate to prevent getting the bloom on it?
I didn’t temper the chocolate, but you can do if you wish.
If using a cake pan, should I use parchment paper or do the come easily out of the pan?
If it’s a silicon pan it will come out easily, if not I would suggest using parchment paper 🙂
I used to make my own chocolate crispies but I would add raisins to mine, sometimes walnuts or pecans. I use Lindt 90% and add stevia for sweetening a bit.
I am interested in using shaped ice cube trays to make these. They are silicone. Do I need to coat them with a spray or will they easily come out of th molds? Are the protein crispies found at places like Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods? I can’t wait to try these for our next get together. Thanks.
If you’re using silicon moulds you don’t need to oil them. I got my crispies from the UK, so not sure if they would have them available in different countries. Rice crispies or puffed quinoa will work just as well 🙂
Where did you purchase protein crispiest from?
I got them from a local health shop and couldn’t find them online, but here’s an alternative https://amzn.to/2PACSH4
Now from a non-healthy prospective – Can you use chocolate melts and would a cup of them do (metric impaired). Or how about just choc chips?
Do you have the nutritional info by any chance please many thanks
I don’t, sorry 😛 but you can work it out using an app like myfitnesspal.
Pleas edit your ingredient list to specify gluten-free Rice Krispies as Rice Krispies is not GF unless you buy that version of them. Thanks.
Nadia. I used rice crispie but it lost the crispness. Why? I would say because of the hot chocolate mix!
Where do you find doughnut rings. Have never seen them, only the doughnut pans?
How did you get the outside so smooth with chocolate
I see some of us are not able to understand simple english ….if it say – “you can freeze any leftover”,it means exactly “leftovers”. I’m sure there won’t be any, it looks to good. I’m making them right now.
Nadia,thanks for easy ,delish recipe.
Yum…
Rudeness isn’t necessary.
It was a simple question they didn’t know the answers to.You didn’t have to put it out there as if you are a know it all.
Lol!!! I was thinking the same thing! It amazes me what some people actually say out loud!
im eating ketogenic diet and these look so temting..im thinking of using chopped almonds instead of the crispies, or some keto granola mix as i can’t eat grains…
Chopped almonds sounds lovely 🙂 I might try it next time!
Amen Tina, I saw couple rude comments on here and was very surprised. It’s a recipe…..Relax. Everyone interprets differently & some may be newbie cooks. So unless you’re perfect you should not be casting a stone.
Have a great day and these do look delicious!
People of all levels of education comment here. I, too, could have asked something such as that because I like to know the answers! Helps me to learn more and I am educated.
It’s always OK to ask questions Sara, please don’t let people try to tell you otherwise. Have a blessed day!
Hello Nadia,
My sister’s name is Nadia also. I never saw puffed quinoa. How can I do that at home.?? It’s a great treat. I make my own chocolate at home so I will melt in
something at that stage.
Thank you,
Sybil
Hi Sybil 🙂 I bought the quinoa pops from a local health food shop, but you should be able to buy it online depending on where you live.
Don’t be soo nasty.
Wow! I don’t think this is the place for nasty and sarcastic comments. We’re all happy cooks, right??
Well, now Everyone take a look at Nicola’s August 21, 2018 comment…..
Now I say to Nadia’s Fans: “thanks to Nicola (and a few others here that have been called out) there is no longer a need to wonder. . . . . CHILD Bullies DO grow up to be adult BULLIES.”
pssst: spread the word !
I have braces and would love to make this and wonder will this recipe break my brackets?
Hi Nadia! I made these for my daughter in college – she loved them! I used natural peanut butter and rice crispies. But mine did not turn out beautifully shiny as yours! They were matte looking 🙂 would almond butter make them shinier like yours?
Can I use peanut butter instead of almond butter? If so, would it be the same measurement?
Thanks!!
Thanks for sharing!
Hi Alli
What are the proportions and does it taste like chocolate?
Do you mean the measurements in cups? If so it’s 1 1/3 cups dark chocolate chips. And yes, it tastes like chocolate 🙂
Yum! Will definitely try these asap. Can you use some kind of oil instead of butter? Or use regular butter?
You can use coconut oil or regular butter 🙂
Can you eat them straight out of the freezer
They may be a little hard when you first take them out of the freezer, but they should be ready to eat in 5-10 minutes 🙂
Are the brand rice crispies vegan ?
No, it’s just dark chocolate, rice crispies and almond butter and you just make circles in wax paper that will give you a donut shape.
I also added a scoop of chocolate protein powder, Yummmmmmmm
These are KETO friendly for sure, and they sound easy and delicious. I use ‘grass-fed’ butter and Lilly’s dark, unsweetened chocolate chips, and organic, unsweetened peanut butter from Bulk Barn, but will have to experiment with the crunchy part.
How many calories are in one of these tasty bites?!
It really depends on what mould you use and the size per serving. For 18 mini doughnuts, there’s around 92 calories 🙂 Hope that helps!
This looks so good! Could you please tell me what 200 grams equates to in American? I can’t wait to try these!
Delicious and so quick! I had some Lily’s chocolate chips with Stevia, but not enough, so I broke up a couple of squares of Lindt 90% dark chocolate bar. After I nuked that with regular Skippy’s peanut butter with nuts. It only has a couple of carbs and it’s so low that spread out, it’s like nothing. If you want them to be shiny, use coconut oil instead. I added the Rice Crispys and some cinnamon. I used a pan that you make ice cream sandwich cookies with. It is so quick and easy! Thank you so much. This is so helpful to stay on a Keto plan. I hated to give up all sugar and this is so satisfying!
Edit: I also used some liquid Stevia for extra sweeting.
Tried the puffed quinoa and brown rice and they are lovely. Puffed amaranth or buckwheat is great too.
So glad you enjoyed them Lia 😀
Hey! I don’t have a doughnut tin and I don’t want to go get one since it’s quarantine. Do you have an idea how I could make these without it? Thanks!!
Hey Summer 🙂 you can use a muffin tin or even a round or square cake tin and slice them into bars. It will work with any tin you have 🙂
Well here it is August 2020. I tweaked this a bit, now that better sweetener has come out. I melted the chocolate, peanut butter and coconut oil in the microwave. I used the Lindt 90% cocoa chocolate bar. I used the same recipe, only I added 3 big tablespoons of Swerve confectioners sugar. Then about 1/4 tsp of vanilla and a 1/2 tsp. peppermint extract. Same amount of peanut butter and an equal amount of coconut oil. Dropped them into a couple of ice cube trays and put in the freezer. Wonderful!
Can i melt the chocolate using simple salted butter?
Hi Eva 🙂 You can use regular butter instead of almond butter. They’ll taste just as good 😀
Love this recipe with chocolate
So glad you like it Luga 🙂 thank you for your feedback!
Nadia, I have had so much fun with this recipe. I have used quinoa pops, gf rice Krispies, Enjoy Life dark, semi sweet or mix of chocolate. I have used silicon mini muffin or silicone mini donut pans or even poured it out on parchment and broke it up. These are so easy and fun to make …….and eat. I am going to try backing off on the krispie stuff and adding some chopped nuts and dried fruit. You’ve got me thinking!
